Shulmans is like Princess Leia (apparently)

Apparently, Shulmans is like Princess Leia: “diplomatic, spirited and not afraid to fight”!

It’s hard to imagine how a serious law firm could ever be compared to a Star Wars character; however this has been revealed in the latest edition of the Lex 100, a student guide to the UK's premier law firms.

The Lex 100 gathered answers to a trainee satisfaction survey (mainly targeted at very large firms), and this is what transpired from it:

Shulmans scored (out of 100):

  • 85 for quality of work
  • 82 for friendliness
  • 79 for client contact
  • 75 for good remuneration, job satisfaction, and living up to expectations
  • 74 for diversity

Comments from our trainees were very positive, and here are the highlighted that were revealed in the survey:

“Respondents enthused about the ‘commercial client base’…, which encompasses ‘big household names and high-profile A-listers’.”

“The ‘good level of responsibility and client contact’ leads to ‘hands-on experience’ with ‘involvement in large cases’.”

“Highlights include ‘completing a complicated commercial property sale where I had been the lead fee-earner and main point of contact for the client’, ‘being involved in a mediation with a high-profile individual’ and ‘being given the responsibility to advise a sport’s national governing body in relation to their consumer credit and commercial documentation’.”

“Commentary also praises the ‘friendly ethos’ which means ‘not being treated as a number’.”

“‘Training is structured’ so that ‘in each seat we are allocated key learning objectives, and supervisors ensure that those objectives are met’. Furthermore, partners ‘will find time to sit with you and provide you with feedback, regardless of how busy they are’.”

“Not only is there a good work/life balance, with trainees working ‘predictable hours’, but there is also a ‘healthy balance of transactional work against admin tasks’.”

The survey concludes:  “For a ‘broad range of clients’ and ‘excellent work’, this is an ‘exciting time to join’ Shulmans.”
