Shulmans hosts Enrichment Festival workshops for local students

Students from Leeds West Academy and Wetherby High recently attended our office to take part in workshops led by several Shulmans colleagues, as part of the three-day Wellington Place Enrichment Festival.

Organised by MPEC in conjunction with social enterprise Ahead Partnership, the festival brought together businesses from across Wellington Place to support Leeds-based students to develop life and employability skills as well as experience the world of work.

Our first group of volunteers ran a morning “Problem Solving” workshop where, through a series of games, students worked on skills including teamwork, compromise, assertiveness, reasoning, debating, persuasion, communication, time management and planning.

The second group then delivered an afternoon workshop called “Taking Care of You”. This session aimed to help students understand what stress is, identifying signs and symptoms of stress, triggers of stress and coping strategies through various games, activities and group discussions.

The feedback from across the festival was positive, with 100% of students surveyed stating that “they would use the information they learned at the event in the future”, and “that the event left them feeling inspired by the opportunities available to them”.
