Double win at the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2016
We are very pleased to have achieved a double win at the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2016.
Last night’s ceremony, held on Thursday 13 October at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, saw the firm collect accolades for ‘Commercial Property’ and ‘Trainee Solicitor’ (Ryan Adams).
For the first time in the history of the awards, law firms were allowed to submit their entries as a video rather than a written piece. We chose to do the former for our ‘Commercial Property’ entry, as it gave us the opportunity to showcase some of our work as well as our offices and building. The video is available to view on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5zSrFo0PbI.
The judges commented of the Shulmans real estate team: “From modest beginnings, they set out with a clear growth strategy in 2010, and have become one of the fastest risers within the local commercial property industry, with organic growth of over 10% over the last 6 years. They have built an impressive client list over a relatively short period of time, with true specialists for each aspect of a transaction. Shulmans are the worthy winners of the Commercial Property award.”
Our real estate expertise was also recognised at this year’s Yorkshire Property Industry Awards, where we won ‘Property Law Firm of the Year’. The Shulmans real estate team was also 'highly commended' in 2015 at both the Yorkshire Legal Awards and the Yorkshire Property Industry Awards.
Having trained with the firm, Ryan Adams joined the Shulmans commercial department in September 2016, and is currently developing a specialism in sports law. Tom Macdonald, from the University of Law, Leeds, commented: “The clear winner of this year’s Trainee Solicitor award has been described a ‘packing a mighty legal punch’. Described as having shown clear thinking and strength of character, throughout their training contract, as well as genuine know-how, they have not only impressed in the office, but also in the wider world, judging the CEDR Negotiation Competition, founding the inaugural National Sports Law Competition, and serving on the England Boxing National Governing Body’s HR, Legal & Compliance subcommittee, as well as the Leeds JLD Committee and the Football Association’s West Riding Disciplinary Panel. It is therefore with great pleasure that we announce that Ryan Adams from Shulmans is the winner of the Trainee Solicitor award.”
The Yorkshire Legal Awards, which are judged by other legal firms, recognise outstanding talent across the Yorkshire region and are a key event in the calendars of legal professionals.
