We are growing strongly. In the summer of 2014 we moved into new state-of-the-art premises in one of Leeds’ most prestigious and high-profile new office developments. Following this, we were voted 'Law Firm of the Year (11-30 partners)' at the most recent Yorkshire Legal Awards (where our Managing Partner, Tim Halstead, was also named as 'Managing Partner of the Year').

Career Development

As the proud holders of the Investors in People accreditation and the Lexcel practice management standard, we have a reputation for supporting and developing our staff. Much of our growth as a business has been organic, and we offer fantastic career prospects though our career progression scheme, Forward with Shulmans (FwS). This framework, which has evolved over many years, offers a clear and transparent way for colleagues to achieve their career goals. Our Learning and Development policy has a clear strategy for supporting colleagues through any formal qualification.

For lawyers:

A number of our current partners began their career here as a trainee, and several of our past and present trainees originally joined the firm as paralegals.

Trainees with strong foreign language skills may have the opportunity to participate in a secondment to one of our Interlegal partners (our international network of law firms).

For non-lawyers:

We have an excellent business support infrastructure that is vital to us in delivering our legal services. There are a range of positions in IT, in Accounts, across our Business Support services and in HR that help our lawyers focus on delivering expert legal advice. All of that provides a wide array of career opportunities.

Within QCAS, our specialist conveyancing division, career pathways are structured to provide opportunities for progression, from administrative roles to caseworker and fee earner posts that handle clients’ files.
